No, you do not need a reader, it is built in to the car, read the 700/900 faq's for the procedure. Look here : http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/EngineOBDCodes.htm
The instructions are the same for your car. Check for stored codes ( not all codes trip the check engine light, only specific ones do, but there are many others that won't trip the light. Check the codes, for the fuel injection and ignition and report back with what you find.
