I've got an 87 244 with 250K and a 90 745 with 266K... both have the M47 5-speed. They're both about due for a clutch. I think it's the first one in both cases. That seems pretty reliable to me.
I know of plenty of AW70 and AW71 transmissions that have logged similar miles, including both of my former 86 240s, my wife's 88 245, and her former daily driver 88 744.
You won't find a 940 with a stick in the US, as it wasn't offered. Late 740s are very rarely equipped with a stick. 240s offered it through the end of production, 1993.
