Trying to replace steering rack... 200

If you didn't do it already, I would spread the upper joint too—so the coupling can be slid up out of the way. That way you can get the rack in place and secure, letting you concentrate on lining up splines etc.

I've found it helpful to spread the yokes by tapping in a small metal wedge in each one. Last time I made them by grinding down some brass wood screws.
