Last Rites for Fuel Pump? 1800

When driving, I have a continuous hum, identical in pitch and
frequency to the initial sound the fuel pump makes when ignition is
turned on; also, engine is getting harder to restart when hot. Is
this the sound/symptoms of pending fuel pump failure?
