A minor footnote:

The first B27 cars also can be found with a couple of Getrag units. Volvo called 'em M50 (4-speed) and M51 (5-speed).

Since the M51 was a true 5-speed, and very beefy, it is highly sought after. I don't think they ever made it to the States, tho.
