Hot Ignition Coil 140-160

I have heard that you shouldn't leave the ignition on without the engine running but the reason I recall was that there is a risk of burning the points.

In general it's not a good idea to have something powered up with no load---this is true of audio equipment i.e. bad for an amp to have it on with no input for any length of time, especially if the volume is turned up.

I don't recall the coil heating up on any of my 140s (or, for that matter, anything else) and the only reason I ever changed one was to upgrade to a Bosch Blue coil, not because of a failure.
