I hitched the M41 to a B18 that was in place - lots of fiddling with extensions and special bits to engage the bolts that attach the transmission to the bell housing, like Pete says. When I swapped a B20 in for the B18 I pulled engine and tranny and put the B20 in with the whole works attached, as JohnMc recommends - much less stress and sweat.
