Jim,I've had bad noise problems with aftermarket pads on our '98 V90. Went back to OEM,no more rumbling.It SOUNDED like worn out pads (metal-to metal),but wasn't.Shake in the steering wheel could be "warped" rotors-are you bedding-in your pads properly? More likely is front suspension (bushing) wear.The post-94 rear front control arm bushings (does that make sense?) are a weak point on this otherwise fine suspension.Don't know if they cause shudder under braking like the 740/940/early 960 cone-shaped bushings,but it's worth a look.You'll see carcks in the bushings if you take awheel off and look closely.
