I installed an alternator and am about to do the same
in my son's 66' 4-door sedan. Best thing I have done to
my wagon and I highly recommend it!
Headlights are twice as bright!!!

If you want to keep it original I toally respect
that; but after having added one to my car, I would never
go back to the generator.
