My Electronics Update Plan 444-544

Just to add a comment about the headlight housings:

Yes, there are many different companies making these housings and some are very poro while others are good.

I'm not particularly impressed with the set I bought, but they fit my budget a the time and I was desperate to get away from the 1964-vintage incandescent headlights that my car came with.

My housings are 100% glass, and have what is called the 'diamond' shaped reflector. The high and low beams are not as well defined as I'm used to seeing from modern cars, but as far as divergent high and low beams go, they seem to be fine.

Since I'm using Xenon bulbs, it's probably a good thing if the low beams focus a little lower than usual, so my lights are glaringly bright in city traffic.

Also, to help mitigate this potential problem I installed chromed headlight covers of the style called 'cat's eyes' which block off the top of the beams and reflect that light back into the housing where it's recombined with the light leaving the lower portion of the healight.

I get a excellent high beam spread, and when you first see them change from a good low beam to the excellent high beam, you think of an aircraft turning on its landing lights.

I added 5-inch driving lights as seen on my website...hmmmm...here's a picture I had already uploaded to the BB Image Library:

I installed H3 size 100-watt Xenon bulbs into these lights. They throw a tight beam WAY down the road.

Regardless of the look you're trying to achieve, remember that what you really want in the end will be to get the best forward vision possible.
