Hello everyone. Long time!
We've been moving for the past few months from one city to the next. The 58 PV has been blasted (finally) primed [gray] and the shop is working on bodywork. Yeah! All of the parts I have restored or purchased are sitting in boxes, nice and clean and painted, ready to be reinstalled. I'm only missing a few minor things which I'm sure I'll be able to obtain when the time is right. And I have a little more work to do like the steering column/gear box, and rebuilding the rear-end when the car gets back. The shop is saying they will be finished with the car in September, but I'm thinking October or November. Whichever month they choose is fine with me as we (my son and I) will have ALL WINTER to reassemble the car. I'm so excited you can't even imagine.
Anyway... I met someone - through the Scarolas PV Register, by the name of Patrick McGlashan (pmcglashan@sbcglobal.net). He seems like a great guy who's found a great old PV. It's a '56 444 and he has decided to purchase. Supposedly the car is "fully restored" but has been sitting for a few years. Here are some of his comments:
All new rubbers, upholestry, paint etc. The engine runs very strong. the person is asking $6000 for it.
I'm going to take a closer look at the car before I commit to buy...magnet to check for presence of bondo, pulling back carpets etc.
I've decided to buy the '56 PV444. However, the car is in Las Vegas, NV. and I live in California. Problem is the car has been sitting for a couple of years. My Father-in-Law is trying to start it but said he's getting spark to the plugs, but no fuel from the pump. There's good gas in the tank.
Since it's a mechanical fuel pump do you think that the diaphragm inside the pump has ruptured/cracked from being dried out? Please let me know your thoughts on this.
Of course, I have no thoughts on this because I'm performing a complete restoration, not fixing problems (I'm not an auto mechanic, although my initial thoughts are: sediment in the tank clogging the lines, gunk'd up fuel pump, inop fuel pump, gunk'd up carbs or something similar).
Here are some pics of his car.
So, I ask you guys to please help Patrick. Either email him directly or post here and I'll forward to him.
By the way, I have my hotel and registration all set for the 2006 East Coast VCOA meet up at Lake Placid. I can't wait to finally see some fully restored PVs!!! Who else is going besides Cam??
Regards,
Tony
