Great points! For sure.
Not to be discounted, and you may think it odd for me to post it given the symptoms, but check the timing and be sure it's in spec and the advance / retard is functioning. This can make some wonky symptoms and even if the carbs are only a little worn, can magnify issues especially with idle, smoothness of accelleration, etc.
