Check the vacuum hoses (free or cheap), reset the code, and wait for it to appear again. I have gotten various codes but never set the check engine light. It is too early to say that the fuel pump relay is in fact the cause. You do have a spare in the glove box?
I have learned not to trust the codes. OBD1 is a pioneer for code setting and often throws sympathetic codes masking the real fault. To me, it is an indication that something “could” be amiss. Fortunately the various codes and sometimes multiple codes I did get were for the fuel pump relay only.
I recently learned that some independent Volvo shops and possibly dealers will change the fuel pump relay, the crank sensor and the fuel injection relay every 120k service, that is if the owner would permit.
