It sounds to me like you accidentally disturbed some of the (improvised) wiring to the coil or the Crane ignition while you were poking around under the dash. If everything worked properly before, the lack of spark is most likely a result of something you did, not an unrelated component failure. Look everything over again with this in mind, or it might be easier to start from scratch and wire up a Bosch blue coil.
