I emailed Dave (Old Kombi) and he said the tube
is 2.25" in diameter. I asked him in an email
since he had resently had his apart!
I did disassemble mine this past weekend before
taking my trip to WV to see jmenacker and found that
my tube was just loose at the bottom clamp.
It actually took more time to peel away the crud and
what I think was the original undercoating; than it did
to clean the clamps, inspect the tube, and reassemble
everything...ha ha ha!
I know when I pulled off and redid my interior cover in rear
wagon area, (the masonite had deteriorated) I saw a tube in there
much like Old Kombi mentioned. I believe it was the venting
tube for the gas filler. My wagon is a 67'
Once I had the tube off I also found the clip intact for
the chain to my Kombi gas cap so I reconected it as well.
There was a small tear through part of the tube so
I think eventually I am going to order the tube from
Olof, as I found the tube part number on his website.
My whole problem was just that the clamp on the gas tank end
had loosened up over the years and was allowing gas to trickle out
during fillups and when the tank was filled and I was making
a sharp turn.
It is nice and clean now and before I left to visit jmenacker
I filled the tank to the top and had no problems at all. I also
enjoyed the fact that my gas gauge went all the way to the
"filled" position. Now I know for sure that it works! :o)
I wish I had taken a few pictures while i was doing all of this but if
anyone would like some I am more than willing to pull it all back
apart and take some if it will help anyone!
Cheers,
Karl
