#1 savage method.I have used gorilla glue under the rubber seal on a 240. Foams up and seals.
Clean with damp rag on thin stick and put a thin bead under seal it foams seals and is WATERPROOF.
Stay with it and wipe up excess.Or tape off paint if you care about that.
#2 If you don't want to toast rubber seal try cleaning and softening rubber with tooth brush and silicone spray. Spray it in cap and brush it on. Will also restore any neoprene ,door seal or rubber part. Do not spray it all over car!
They do this on airplanes with silicone grease so the windows don't blow out, when the seal dries and shrinks,Food service and plumbing use non petro-chemical silicone grease,if you can't get some on the flight line.
