If you use Antifreeze in your radiator then you most likely would smell it.

Is the Fog actually greasy feeling? That too would lean toward a bad Heater Core.

If its been just very rainy and damp it is possible that the heat running through the Vents are drying it out. Did it do it once or all the time?
How's the Coolant Reservior looking?
