AUTO shift problems 900 1992

If the switch does nothing at 50 mph I can't imagine it doing anything at a different speed.

In a quiet area turn the ingnition switch to "on" (dash lights illuminated). When you slowly press the switch repeatedly and the arrow light goes on and off do you hear a clicking or snapping sound under the car in the area of the transmission?? The solenoid is mounted on the driver's side up high on the transmission. You may need to get a helper down on the ground beside the car to listen for the operation of the solenoid.

If that sound is missing then your solenoid is not being activated by the relay. You need to find out if the wire leading to the solenoid is providing the 12v needed to power the solenoid. You could do this with a test light or a meter.

The wire that leads from the relay and is routed under the car to the transmission solenoid could be damaged or missing. However if the wire is in place and 12v is being provided you may in fact have a bad solenoid (which is not very common).
