740 GLE problems 700 1985

Wow, You guys are amazing. You have no idea how much this info has enlightened me. I am forwarding them to my mechanic just to see what he says. I'm pretty sure the squishy brake pedal is the master cylinder, which will be replaced in 2 weeks. As far as the scary revving when stopped, it hasn't happened since I had the vaccum hose replaced (it was collapsed when I purchased the car). My mechanic insisted I get it replaced immediately. So I think you hit that right on the button.

I need the catalytic converter as well as the exhaust system, so I'm sure it will be pricey. Any ideas on what a girl with no mechanics experience can read or watch to get an idea of how to "do it yourself?" Especially with Volvo's? Or is this site my best bet? And what is FCP Groton?

Another question I have is, as far as parts, would you recommend an actual Volvo dealer? We had an issue with a seal in the front that my mechanic couldn't find and had to adjust another type to fit my car. Apparently it was a pain in the butt. Oh and can I flush out the brake lines myself??

Thank you so much.

Dana
