Problem solved, thanks 200 1988

I did a search concerning the buzzing relay and found reference to insufficient amperage as a possible cause.

So I went back and ran a wire from the through bolt on the positive post of the battery to the red wire connector on the harness plug at the relay. It did not make a change in any of the behaviors at the relay, hmmm....

Turns out the bolt that clamps the cable end to the post as well as makes the connection to the red wire was partially insulated by corrosion on the clamping side (not the side that the red wire connects to). Removing that bolt and cleaning it up resulted in an instant startup.

So you were correct in that I had 12v at the relay, but not a good enough connection to provide the amperage needed to supply the relay.

I also went ahead and cleaned the grounds on the intake for good measure.

Thanks for taking the time to lay that out for me and give me something to work with.

Randy
