Yikes. It could maybe be your starter, but they rarely fail in my experience and it's more likely to be one of the timing belt or serpentine belt pulleys. If it is, and it fails you would likely be in for a cylinder head rebuild. Check all these pulleys for play and if any are suspect replace them ASAP. Don't run the engine if you suspect one of those as the problem. How many miles on the car and have the t-belt pulleys been replaced? If the starter is the problem it will require replacement which isn't real easy due to the its location.
