For what it's worth - drove it a little way to wait for the breakdown services. (stopped outside a pub - thought I'd make a ay of it!)

Just about made it - as soon as I put the transmition in N the back back wheels lost.

When the transporter came the back wheels were locked solid - even though in neutral - -so it seems to me to be a diff prob - however, as far as looking underneath - I'm not totally sure but maybt the oil trail starts before the diff.

And by memory, the smell is of a goosed transmittion.

I dunno - think I'll change it into another car.
