I agree, we should be using the AMM Bosch thought best for the job. The fact a few of us can drive LH2.4 cars with LH2.2 AMMs in them is not a recommendation for using them, but just an indication of how well the LH2.4 ECU adapts to the particular baseline and curve of the substitute AMM. It is also helpful the pinout (minus the CO adjust pin) is compatible, unlike the LH2.0 model.
Making that substitution when other parts of the fuel injection may be at fault will only result in a more complex trouble, when those other faults combine to put the ECU beyond its ability to compensate and then into a limp-home fuel map.
Regarding the connector swap you mentioned on the 2.0 (and 2.2) cars, we've helped several brickboard users replace those idle motor drive transistors after those unfortunate goofs - usually after replacing a rotten harness.
And, disconnecting the ECU with the motor running? Hard to imagine anyone doing that, but that I did once, foot caught on my breakout box cable. No harm done, though.
