Sorry about not posting the year - it is a 1988 DL. I've gotten used to the year next to the model, I failed to make sure it was there before submitting.
Other considerations - I've owned it since new. The car has always been in North Carolina so rusty connections under the car isn't usually a concern - but, is there a pickup somewhere that may be prohibiting a signal to get up to the cluster? It worked the morning of election day (Nov 7) while I drove the 2 miles to the polls, then when I came out and started the car the engine bucked for some reason but didn't die and I drove off. About a half mile down the road I noticed the needle on zero.
