Happy holidays Ron. Thanks for the Nylock suggestion

The instructions were fine - even for an electrical novice like me. The swap was managed without destroying any of the original wiring. :-) The two small black wires formerly on the starter were bolted together and wrapped up tight in electrical tape. Everything else on the other end could either be removed or taped off.

I'm still a little confused about the isolated stud. Is there any reason that the three wires could not have just been soldered together without the bolt?
