Odometer not working

OK, my odometer and trip odometr stoped working on my 1990 240dl. The speedo still works. I ordered a replacement gear and changed it. The old one was still looking good everything felt free and no binding. I also cleaned the connections on the back of the speedo. Still the odometer does not spin. Is there any way of checking the motor or power to the motor. I need to trouble shoot more and would like some help. Thank You
