For the record, the '90 and '91 740's with Regina I've owned always had a funky idle when in gear. Never could figure out why. Sqeaky clean throttle bodies, properly adjusted. Well tuned. Good motor mounts. Mileage ranging from 137K to 289K miles. In park or neutral, they idle perfectly.
