Electric? 120-130

When my B18 began to show signs of quiting last summer one of the options I put serious thought into was a full electric ("plug-in") conversion. I had also just seen "W.K.T.E.C.?."

I itemized everything out to "do it right." That is, if I was going to move forward with an EV conversion I wanted to destroy some of the common myths about them, specifically regarding performance. John Wayland, among other enthusiasts, was an inspiration. (http://www.plasmaboyracing.com/).

What eventually disuaded me were a couple things:

a) it was going to cost MORE than a high performance B20 from Vintage Performance Developments. To "do it right" costs somewhere in the ballpark of $8k-$10k. If I find my list (it's around here somewhere) I can rough it out for you.

b) given the limited budget, there are other areas I want to put money into my amazon beside the power plant (i.e. I need to reupholster my seats and replace my cracked windshield).

c) resale value- if down the road I decide to sell my car it will be close to un-sellable as an EV conversion. I will lose all of the money invested into the EV process, whereas if I dump a bunch of money into a "real" engine I can at least recover a portion of that if I sell later on. The market for antique Volvo's is pretty small. The market for EV-converted antique Volvo's is essentially non-existent.

On the other hand, if you've got a bunch of money to throw at a fun project...
