Problem with backup lights 200 1986

I had the exact same issue and it turned out to be just what Sven's Maintainer said: shift link bushings. I got a pair from RPR and it took me a couple hours to install. It shouldn't have taken so long, but i had to modify the parts a little.

For some reason, the bushings i got had a raised lip on each end, and would not fit into the hole. I ended up shaving one of the lips down on each bushing so that i could push it into place.

Now, the reverse lights work and the shifter feels solid, like a brick should feel.
