I maybe should have done just what was shown on the above site (http://www.geocities.com/bloodyl/convquad.html)
Except probably paint the surrounds flat black, to match the rest.
I got hung up on finding the right grill - didn't think I could find a 740 turbo grill. I bet any 740 grill from the same year range would have been fine. I bet I could have had quad rounds or quad rectangulars, all Volvo stuff, transplanted to my own car. So be advised on that if you're considering a similar project. I suspect some 940 or even 850 grills would fit fine. In any case you'd need to fabricate the attachments, but you're going to be fabricating plenty in such a project anyway.
I used the corner lamp attachment method from the (geocities/...convquad) writeup.
I found that using a second attachment bracket makes the lamp much more stable. I'm pretty sure I used a straight strip bracket in at least one location, not an "L" angle. You'll see what's appropriate when you are doing the work.
My drivers' side corner lamp still has only one bracket. Changing to two will require removing the headlight itself and thus the battery, it's a big PITA so it's become a far-back-burner item.
