The XR700 unit doesn't know diddly squat about advance or retard. Mechanical or vacuum powered. It just sparks when the optical sensor tells it too. The optical sensor is mounted to the same plate the points were, so it gets advanced and retarded the same as the points did. Won't help you with any busted vac advance problem, sorry.

It does a fine job of managing dwell, though...
