Starting Fluid Injection System 444-544

Mr. Shannon,
Now there's an idea. I heard about that before, but had forgotten.
Reasons for two cylinders (1 & 4): (a) I only need about 20-24 hp to run a 10-12kw generator head @ 1800rpm, and (b) the two center cylinder bores are badly scored from broken piston rings. I also hoped to get better fuel economy that way.

I have the two center pistons in for balance and to keep the big-end bearing shells around the crankshaft to keep the oil pressure up. I removed the pushrods and lifters to keep the valves closed, and I drilled the piston tops so I could keep the plugs in to keep the noise down and eliminate oil spitting. This way the pistons can move without binding up the engine against the closed combustion chambers.
Bob S.
