Paul,
The wood is red oak I had left over from a boat cradle. It does help to soak up the vibes, but I adapted some B20 mounts + rubber to add some more buffering. The carb is a VW PICT 30 on a Weber manifold, but when I couldn't get that set-up to work I put on a pair of SUs. Thereafter I found out that my starting problem was due to a bad condensor, so, maybe the VW carb would have worked after all, but, at this point, I don't think I'll go back to find out.
The cam is the one that originally came with the motor, a B18 out of a 1962 PV544, which would make it a C, I guess. I would have preferred to go with an A cam and a single carb, but the A manifolds are pretty much unobtainable in the U.S. An A cam would have had to come from Europe, although, as you suggested, I might have been able to get one from a U.S., non-Volvo, cam supplier; but without the single carb manifold, I didn't see any sense in going that route. Valve lash is set at .016 go .018 no-go, hot.
