When filling the tank different fuel pumps will cut off at wildly different levels of fuel in the tank. Even the same pump will cut off at different levels depending on how quickly the fuel is being dispensed. The amount of fuel in the tank after filling can vary by a gallon or more. The tank holds less than 10 gallons so 1/4 tank will be a little more than two gallons. With a one gallon margin of error, a calculation on the first quarter tank after filling might be close to 100 percent!
Run the car through several full tanks of gas and try to fill up at the same pump at the same station at the same rate of flow for best guess mileage calcs.
