Another thing to keep in mind is what type of ignition/injection system the donor car had. If the 8 valve motor came from a Rex/Regina car instead of a car with the Bosch system then the flywheel's trigger holes won't work with the crank sensor properly on a car with the Bosch system.
The Rex/Regina system can be identified by the large ignition coil assembly bolted to the driver's side strut tower. The computer under the passenger side footwell also says "Bendix" on it if memory serves. These systems can be found in many non-turbo 8 valve 740s and 940s from about '89-'95.
