Tony,

Sounds a little wrong - ther shouldn't be any differences between years of coils and the mounting bracket.
Have you dubble checked? Sorry to ask, but the coil can be for a 1800 (yes, I know it's not 6V - but they look the same at the coil and the triangular base-plate) - is the coil you have really 6V?
(the 1800 coil shielded cable is quite some inches longer than the PV/Duetts - does the one you have seem to have 'correct' length?)

I'm not sure you have done a complete search for ign.lock/tumbler...
