The black cup side goes toward the pressure switch, the yellow disc side away.

I believe the most common reason for the hood misalignment is a bent hinge, caused by lack of lube. This can progress into a bent hood as well, when forced. A replacement hinge is better than taking the kink out of the one you have, which will tend to bend again in the same place.
