Hi David,
When you say the 'internal' compressor switch...... which one exactly are you talking about? The brass sensor you see towards the rear of the compressor on the driver's side is the thermo-sensor. It is designed to disengage the compressor when it reaches 105C and re-engage at 90C. There is also a high pressure 'relief' valve on the rear of the compressor that pops at ~560 psi. It works! I used mine several times a few years ago when I had a problem with the pressure sensor on the condenser.
