Once I had a fuel pump diaphragm with a small split in it leaking fuel into the crankcase mixing with oil and the resulting fumes making there way to the intake by way of PVC hose. Caused all kinds of idle problems. May not be your problem but easy to check just smell your oil on the dip stick while checking for overfill condition.
