Hi Paul:
Actually you do have a B4B "B" variant, 44 hp. It had a single Carter down draft carburetor and AutoLite starter, distributor and generator. The B4B was used in all European PV444s, models "A" through "K". The 1957/58 "L" switched to either a B16A or B16B. The 1955-57 "H" and "K" models were brought into the United States with the 70 hp B14A. To help appease the domestic maket, a 51 hp variant of the B4B was introduced. The B14A had 2 SU-HS2 carburetors, developping 70 hp and was considered the "sport" engine of the time. The only other model to receive the B14A was the short lived P1900 sports car.
Actually of the 7500 "B-BS-BQ-BSQ" models, only 56 are registered with the PV-Klubben in Sweden. Surprisingly well over 300 "A-AS" are registered, almost entirely in Sweden. According to my 2007 Svenska Volvo PV-klubben Matrikel (a.k.a. Fact Book / Bible) there are no members in the UK.
I think the PV were relatively rare in the UK because they were all LHD. The Amazon was the first Volvo with RHD and mut have been more popular in the UK.
Hope this all helps.
