Engine siezed- postmortem

I purchased an 89 240 wagon some time ago as a parts car from behind the garage of a used car lot. The engine was seized but otherwise a decent vehicle, obviously a good parts car.

I pulled the head off and put it on the shelf. I recently brought the head to my workbench and started to disassemble it. I pulled the thermostat cover off and noticed the broken thermostat. Obviously the engine seizure was due to overheating and the overheating was due to the fact the thermostat was unable to open to allow coolant to exit the block. I hadn't seen a thermostat fail like this before.

Click here to view the image of the broken thermostat.
