By clearer explanation, I mean to explain how they were installed, for how long, and what was done with the car during the past week.
But I'll attempt to reiterate for clarity..
These are 122 sedan straps (as sold to me) installed on a 122 sedan. Purchased from a reputable eBay seller (Olaf - Duett445). They are indeed shorter than the straps on my P220.
They are made of a laminated canvas material with a brownish color.
They were installed according to instructions in the volvo greenbook. Using stainless steel hardware identical to the bolt kit supplied with the straps
(J-loop plates were installed as shown in the greenbook - which was how they were found originally.
The new straps were on the car for a total of 7 days. The car was driven 60 miles total (4x 15 mile trips) in two days, it sat parked for one day (Wednesday).
They car was put on jackstands on Thursday evening to investigate the exhaust problem.
The car was not checked on Friday. On Saturday morning the passenger side strap was found torn away across the top bolt hole. That is, the top did *not* tear out (upwards, parallel to the strap) as would be consistent with a loose plate. Imagine that you took a new strap and cut the last 1" off by slicing across the bolt hole and that's how my strap failed.
This car is stock. Stock wheels, stock tires (165R15 Kumhos) stock suspension, stock interior, stock engine, stock rotors and hubs, etc. It was not driven crazily, nor at excessive speeds. And of course. The driver's side strap is in perfect working condition with no evidence of being about to break.
Based on what everyone has said, this sounds like a rare "bad strap"
