Hey Bob,
I just posted this post (http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=1206341&nr_no=1) regarding what appears to be the same problem in 850/v70 volvos and saabs that use a later model seiko compressor. The jist is that over time the clutch wears down signifigantly enough that there is excess gap between the clutch and the magnetic coils. When the temp is very high, there is increased resistance in the coils, resulting in a weak magnetic field that is unable to draw the clutch in properly. The fix, in these cars, is to take the clutch out and remove some shims, to bring the clutch plate closer to the coils (back w/ in factory spec).
Do you have any knowledge about this in '94 940 seiko compressors? Does this seem reasonable?
Thanks again.
