I want to make sure I've covered all my bases. I purchased my '93 240 (auto)about 2 months ago with 219,000 miles. Last week, I noticed when I came to a stop, the tranny didn't always downshift to 1st, so it would start off in 2nd. If I stepped on the gas, it would downshift. Later that afternoon, it did not want to upshift into 3rd. I checked the fluid and, of course, it's dirty brown. Read the boards...I drained and refilled the tranny yesterday 5 times (I don't have a cool flush kit and no garage would even consider flushing it for me). It was shifting fine after 3 changes of fluid, but after the 4th change, it would not stay in 2nd gear (would downshift to 1st with very little gas pedal pressure). Did one more change of fluid with no difference. I adjusted the kickdown cable to no avail. Will add some Seafoam Transtune tonight. Just priced a used transmission for $250.00 in case I have to go that route. I do have a new pan gasket and filter, but did not change that. Any thoughts on what I should check next before I jump into a transmission swap? Thanks in advance for all of your feedback!
