Update on this problem 200

Turns out that the mechanic had badly scored the surface the seal sits on when removing the old one, enough for it to shred the new seal. A good indy Volvo mech found this out and I am now in the process of getting some reimbursement for my trouble.
Crankcase presure was not the problem of course- I didn't think so.
So, the moral i guess is don't get idiots who don't know Volvos to work on your cars, and try and do as much as you can yourself. This board is a great source of info and helps me learn alot Cheers, Jaan
