I've never owned a 240 so I can't truly respond specifically to your question.
I've had a 444, 2 544s, 4 122s, 2 164s, a 144 and a 145. I've recently got
a 2001 S60T5 and a 2001 V70T5, both of which I like really well but they are
nowhere near as "bulletproof" as the oldtimers and not nearly as intuitive to
fix, either, so repairs are a lot more expensive when you have to hire someone
else to do them.
My kids learned to drive in 122s and the '69 164. They really are good cars
to learn the basics of driving in because of straightforward controls, easy
and forgiving shifting, etc. Once you get the basics down you can shift to
about anything else easily. They are also pretty easy to fix and very rugged.
(One of my 122s got between an old Olsmobile and a Nissan and nearly totaled
both of them with barely visible marks on the 122.)
