Break Lines 120-130 1967

Seems there's some punning going on and I missed out. Ah well.

You guys might recall several months ago I was upgrading the split front/rear brake system on my my 67 122S to a full dual-triangular system salvaged from from my 1971 1800E. I posted a number of links to flaring how-tos and some sources for the tools. I lost my old bookmarks so you'd have to search the BB for that info.

I did indeed buy new brake lines because the 1800 lines were to short for the 220 chassis. I cleaned and re-used the limiters and a couple good condition short lines. I bought two 25' foot rolls of new brake line from an eBay seller and salvaged all the male and female fittings from the original brake lines.

I have a couple pairs of those double-flaring kits - best price is from HaborFreight. The previous posters are correct that these U-shaped clamp setups suck monkey. However, since I have a couple pair of flaring clamps and press-things from a couple different tools sources, I was able to make serviceable kit. The only good thing about the Harbor Freight kit is the double-flare inserts - and those do break. I used a single-flare clamp and press from a different, better quality kit from my local hardware store. After some practice, I was able to successfully double-flare all of my lines.

The real boon was that the brake line was soft enough to flare without splitting (like steel line), but strong enough to form a good seal. Plus, I left enough line to correct mistakes.

If you need some more info feel free to contact me.
