warms up too fast? 700

Hi,
Is it normal that on my 1986 760 turbo the temperature gage shows fully warmed up after about 2 minutes? It never shows as the engine overheating but am wondering if that is normal. On my previous cars it would take about 5-10 minutes to warm up completely.

Also do you have to disconnect anything (any sensors?) when timing the engine? My repair manual says you cannot even adjust timing but I know you can.
