Does the blower fan need to be replaced?

Hey Guys,

Here's a question. Well...two actually. I bought the fan package off of europarts.com via ebay.

1. When I checked out the new switch (a 4 speed switch)...it doesn't go off. Even on Zero. What does that mean? Just to reiterate...my car is an 82 with the speeds 0,1,2,3 labeled. I'm assuming that the original was also considered a 4 speed switch?

2. (the bigger problem) When I insert the new motor for mounting (from the left side), it doesn't go in deep enough. Therefore, if I attach the left fan onto the left side of the motor... it never fits properly into its repective housing. It sticks too far out. Possible soution? Use a dremel tool to shave down the the nibs around the screw holes. Right? New problem. I've measure it and that won't give me the clearance I need. The fan is ticking over an inch out. ANY IDEAS?

By the way...the motor is a Unimotor band (supposedly it is the brand formerly know as Siemens) One thing to mention. I notice that the lengths of shafts coming out of the motor are almost identically the same length, In addition the mounting bracket is centrally located on the fan. On a replacement Siemens brand motor that I have seen and on the original Volvo motor.....both the shafts are distinctly different in size and the mounting bracket is offset. Is the motor I bought no good? Thank you.
