Transmission compatability

I have an AW-70 from a 89 240(that was the marking on the tranny, it was removed from a 86 240, but must have been a replacement tranny).

Can I use that in a 90 or 91 740 with a AW-70L or 71L??

What is the difference between a lockup and non lockup transmission?

Thanks, I pulled the tranny as a backup, and don't want to keep it if it is uncompatable.
